A woman shows how to open a stuck jar lid with a wooden spoon

There are dozens of tricks to open a jar with a stuck lid, but most of the time they don’t even work. So, here’s a trick that internet users have discovered that apparently works without fail!

It was on BBC Radio 2 that Texan singer Sharleen Spiteri revealed an old trick that quickly went viral on Instagram.

Indeed, as the singer explained, the secret ingredient to open a jar with a stuck lid is a wooden spoon: "You take the jar, I really struggle to open jars, I take a wooden spoon and I hit the edge once, and the jar goes "pop" and it opens. It's crazy. Give it a good smack."

The singer assured that the trick worked every time: "I did a FaceTime with my sister, I was opening every jar in my house that I could find just to show people."

The trick intrigued many internet users who immediately tried the experiment.

One person notably declared: "Oh my God, it works, my pickled onions are open!!!"

Several internet users took the opportunity to share their own tricks. Let's say, there are quite a few that are unusual!

For example, one person advised wrapping plastic wrap around the jar lid, applying pressure with your hand downwards. By doing so, the lid should unscrew fairly easily.

There is also an elastic band method which involves wrapping an elastic band around the jar lid. The friction should make it much easier to open the lid.

A fourth trick involves running the jar under very hot water, then turning the lid using a cloth to avoid burns.
