An easy-to-make pie, a simple and delicious caramel sauce. A true autumn delight.
Ingredients
6 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup water
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1 pinch of salt
5 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
2 homemade or store-bought pie crusts
Preparation
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
In a saucepan, mix butter, white sugar, brown sugar, water, cinnamon, and salt. Bring to a boil, remove from heat and set aside.
Roll out half of the dough in a 9-inch pie plate.
Place the apple slices in the pie crust.
Cut remaining dough into 8 x 1-inch strips. Place the strips one at a time, in a lattice pattern.
Pour the sugar and butter mixture over the top of the pie, coating the lattice and allowing any remaining sauce to flow through the crust.
Bake in preheated oven for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and bake until crust is golden, which is about 35 to 40 minutes more.
Allow to cool completely before slicing.
