INGREDIENTS

  • 8 to 10 green cabbage or Savoy cabbage leaves
  • 1 lb of lean ground beef
  • 1 tsp of salt
  • 2 tsp of pepper
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 cup of white rice
  • 1/2 cup of milk
  • 2 cloves of garlic, chopped
  • 1 large egg, beaten

For the sauce:

  • 1 can (8 oz) of tomato sauce
  • 1 tbsp of brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp of ketchup
  • 1 tsp of Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp of lemon juice

PREPARATION

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 °F.
  2. Boil a large pot of salted water.
  3. Beat the egg and milk together in a small bowl and pour over the ground beef. Add the salt, pepper, garlic, onion, and rice. Mix with hands.
  4. In another bowl, place the tomato sauce, brown sugar, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and lemon juice. Mix and set aside.
  5. Cut the cabbage core with a knife and plunge it into boiling water for 5 minutes.
  6. Take it out and gently remove the leaves. Let cool.
  7. Spread a cabbage leaf and put about 4 tablespoons of meat on it. Roll upward.
  8. Pour a ladle of sauce at the bottom of a baking dish. Place the cabbage rolls inside and cover with the remaining sauce.
  9. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 1 hour.
