Do you love date squares and want to find another dessert that tastes just as good? We have found the perfect dessert for you. This date cake is succulent, but with the caramel sauce it is totally stunning. No one will be able to resist it. The caramel sauce brings an extra sweet touch that perfectly complements the cake. 


This cake is just excellent... almost too good!

Ingredients

  • For the cake:
  • 1 ¾ cups pitted dates, chopped
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 3/4 cup boiling water
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 ⅛ cups flour
  • For the sauce:
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 2/3 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and butter an 8-inch square dish.
  2. In a bowl, mix the dates with the baking soda. 
  3. Cover the dates with boiling water.
  4. In a bowl, cream 1/3 cup butter with sugar.
  5. Add the eggs and whisk again.
  6. Incorporate the dates with their water and the flour using a spatula.
  7.  Pour the batter into the prepared dish.
  8. Bake in the oven for 40 minutes. 
  9. In a saucepan, mix the brown sugar, 1/3 cup butter, and evaporated milk.
  10. Bring to a boil and let simmer for 5 minutes.
  11.  Remove from heat and add vanilla.
  12. Pour over the still hot cake
