It's even better homemade!
Even if we try to reduce our fast-food consumption, there's a classic from McDonald's that's hard to resist.
It's the famous apple pies!
These little flaky and crispy pies, filled with apples and cinnamon, are so comforting. They tell us that, despite the passage of time, some things remain immutable. We can still hear the cashier at McDonald's say for years to come, "Would you like an apple pie with that?"
The pies from the fast-food giant are hard to beat. But know that it's possible to recreate that delicious taste and wonderful texture without leaving the house. You can enjoy hot pies... after making them yourself.

Ingredients:
2 sheets of thawed puff pastry
3 cups (750 g) of peeled apples diced into 1/3 to 1/2 inch pieces (about 4 large apples)
3 tablespoons (45 g) of sugar
3 tablespoons (36 g) of light brown sugar
1 ½ teaspoons (7.5 g) of cinnamon
½ teaspoon (7.5 g) of nutmeg
1 tablespoon (15 ml) of fresh lemon juice
¼ cup (65 ml) of water
2 tablespoons (30 g) of cornstarch dissolved in 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of cold water
1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon (15 ml) of cold water
3 tablespoons (36 g) of light brown sugar
¾ teaspoon (4 g) of cinnamon

Preparation:
To prepare the apple pie filling:
1. In a large saucepan, mix diced apples, sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and water. 2. Cook over medium heat for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
3. Add the cornstarch dissolved in ¼ cup of water and cook for 3-4 minutes until thickened.
4. Remove from heat and let cool completely.
5. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper. Set aside.
6. Stir in the cinnamon and 3 tablespoons of light brown sugar. Set aside.
7. Whisk one egg with 1 tablespoon of cold water. Set aside.
8. Unfold the thawed puff pastry and roll it out on a lightly floured surface into a 12 × 12 inch square. Cut it into 8 rectangles of 3 × 6 inches.
9. Place 4 rectangles on a baking sheet. Place a generous amount of apple pie filling on each rectangle, leaving about a ½ inch border without filling.

10. Brush the border with egg and cover with the four remaining puff pastry rectangles. 11. Gently stretch the pastry with your hands to cover the mound of filling and match the edges.
12. Press the edges with the fork.
13. With a sharp knife, cut 4 slits on the top of each pie.
14. Brush with egg and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.

Repeat the above steps with the remaining sheet of puff pastry.
15. Bake in the oven until golden brown, about 18 to 20 minutes.
All that's left is to enjoy the pies while they're still hot, ideally in good company!
