Caramelized onions are fantastic! You can put them everywhere! The problem is sometimes we can't achieve a nice dark brown, so we turn up the heat... MISTAKE! You won't have caramelized onions; you'll have burnt onions, yuck! There's one ingredient you shouldn't forget when caramelizing onions, see which one: [ad]

  • Put 2 tablespoons of olive oil to heat in a pan over medium-high heat.
  • Add sliced onions in half-rings.
  • Salt
  • Let cook until the desired color is achieved.

The secret: SALT! It draws out the sugars contained in the onion, and these sugars are what brown and bring that beautiful caramelization...

You can store your caramelized onions in sterile airtight jars and use them for a variety of recipes and dishes.
