When they're on sale, onions are really cheap... This tip will allow you to take full advantage!
Yellow onions, white onions, Spanish onions, red onions... There are as many varieties of onions available in Quebec as there are onion eaters! ;-) Personally, I love them, and not just as seasoning for my sauces and soups. I feature onions in my meals, and I swear you should try it; it's appreciated by all the guests.
When summer comes to a close and harvest time is in full swing, onions are almost given away... Every year, I take full advantage, and thanks to this tip, I have them all winter. Here's what I do:
I put them in nylon stockings and hang them in a cupboard. It seems strange, but it works!
You put an onion in the stocking, then tie a knot. You put a second one, then tie a knot... You continue until you have no more onions.
When you want an onion, you cut at the knotted joint and off it goes to the chopping board!

It might seem quirky, but it works! And it also gives a second life to torn stockings.
