Seasoned to perfection, this sauce is by far one of the best.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ pounds of ground beef or ground pork
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 3 (15-ounce) cans of diced tomatoes
  • 1 (6-ounce) can of tomato paste
  • 2 teaspoons brown sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon dried basil
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 cups beef broth

Preparation

  1. In a large pot, cook the meat, onion, green bell pepper, and garlic until the meat is browned and the vegetables are tender. 
  2. Drain the fat and stir in the tomatoes, tomato paste, brown sugar, oregano, salt, basil, thyme, and bay leaf.
  3. Add the beef broth. 
  4. Bring to a boil and let simmer for 1.5 to 2 hours.
