The white cake is a classic dessert and the recipe we have is usually handed down by our mom or grandma. Although your recipe is probably excellent, the recipe we offer you today is by far much better than the one you have. 

The white cake is a versatile dessert that can be served in different ways. Indeed, it can be served as is, without frosting, it can be served with vanilla or chocolate frosting, it can also be served with a berry coulis or homemade caramel or even with a maple syrup frosting. Although the possibilities are numerous, it is important to have a delicious base cake for an appealing dessert. 

The best recipe for a light and moist white cake. The most important rule to follow in its making... The eggs and milk must be at room temperature.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups of flour 
  • 1 cup of milk at room temperature 
  • 6 egg whites at room temperature 
  • 2 teaspoons of almond extract
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 3/4 cups of granulated sugar
  • 4 teaspoons of baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon of table salt
  • 1 1/2 sticks of unsalted butter, softened but not too much

Preparation

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and grease two 8-inch cake pans.

In a bowl, combine the milk, egg whites, vanilla extract, and almond extract.

In your stand mixer's bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. 

Add the butter in cubes and whip at low speed for about 1 to 2 minutes.

Add the wet ingredients to the flour mixture and whip at medium speed for 2 1/2 minutes. 

Pour the batter evenly between the two prepared cake pans.

Bake for 27 to 30 minutes.
