The Real Old-Fashioned Sugar Pie from Our Grandmothers!

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups of brown sugar
  • 6 tablespoons of flour
  • 12 oz of evaporated milk
  • 4 tablespoons of butter
  • 2 teaspoons of cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla
  • 1 pie crust for a 9-inch pan

PREPARATION

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F.
  2. Whisk the brown sugar and flour together in a small saucepan.
  3. Place over medium heat and add the evaporated milk, butter, cinnamon, and salt while whisking.
  4. Cook until the mixture is fully combined and begins to simmer.
  5. Continue whisking and let simmer gently for a minute. The mixture should start to thicken.
  6. Remove from heat and add the vanilla. Stir.
  7. Pour the mixture into the prepared cold pie crust and bake in the oven for 5 minutes.
  8. Reduce the oven temperature to 350°F and continue baking for 25 minutes.
  9. Cool on a rack for 2 hours before cutting and serving.

With a scoop of vanilla ice cream or cream, it's heaven!
