It's time to bake our favorite pies with the berry season starting. And we agree that a good pie starts with a good crust!
Ingredients
- 1¼ cups of flour
- ½ teaspoon of salt
- 2 to 4 tablespoons of VERY COLD water
- ⅓ cup of fat, shortening or COLD butter
Preparation
- In a bowl, add the flour and salt, mix to combine.
- Cut the fat into the flour until the pieces are pea-sized.
- Add the water, one tablespoon at a time, stirring with a fork. Add just enough water to moisten the flour so you can form a ball that holds together.
- Wrap the dough ball in plastic wrap and transfer it to the refrigerator for about an hour.
- On a well-floured surface, roll out the dough. Flour the top of the dough too and roll into a circle. Add more flour as needed to prevent the dough from sticking.
- Once the dough is large enough, place it in a pie dish.
- All that's left is to add your favorite filling and bake it.
