INGREDIENTS
- 3 cups of warm water (not boiling)
- 2 tsp instant yeast
- 2 tsp salt
- 2 tsp sugar
- 1 pack of bacon, cooked and diced
- 2 cups of cheddar, grated and separated
- 6 cups of flour
- 1/8 tsp ground black pepper
PREPARATION
- In a large bowl, mix water, yeast, and sugar. Whisk and let sit for 5-7 minutes in a warm place (the turned-off oven with the light on).
- Incorporate 1 cup of cheddar and all other ingredients (keep a few bacon pieces to sprinkle on top later) into the bowl containing the yeast and mix until fully incorporated. The dough will be very sticky.
- Cover the dough with a clean and damp tea towel and place in the turned-off oven with the light on for about 1.5 hours.
- Place the dough on a floured surface and knead for a few minutes.
- Cut the dough in half, put it into two rectangular bread pans, then sprinkle the top with the remaining cup of cheddar and the bacon pieces reserved earlier.
- Cover the dough with the towel again and place it in a warm place for 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 400°F and bake the loaves for 15 minutes.
- After 15 minutes, place a sheet of aluminum foil over the loaves, lower the temperature to 350°F, and bake for 35 minutes.
- After 35 minutes, remove the aluminum foil and continue baking for 10 minutes.
