During the summer, we often leave aside our craft and DIY activities but when we go back to school, we want to start creative projects when the cooler evenings confine us inside.

For those who particularly like sewing, it is possible that you already know some grandmother's tips.

Here are ten others tips you should know:

1. For sharp pins and needles, make your own pincushion that will sharpen your needles every time by filling your current ball (or piece of cloth) with steel wool.

2. You should always have washi tape in your sewing shop to mark fabric, seams or hold pieces. Since this tape is typically 1/4 inch wide, it is a small, handy measuring tool.

3. To make a "pleated", make a zigzag seam on a cotton thread. Then you only have to pull on the cotton thread until you get the desired pleating. Then make a straight seam to keep everything in place.

4. Create a handy little tool to make edging quickly by drawing perpendicular lines on a cardboard rectangle like this.

5.To prevent the buttons from falling too easily, apply some clear nail polish to the top of the button to cover the yarn.

6. To remove the seam from a buttonhole without damaging the fabric, place a pin just above the seam like this. Thus, you can remove it safely.

7. To make your needles and pins go through tissues more easily, always store them in a bar of soap.

8. To draw a perfect pattern quickly, attach two pencils together using an elastic band. Use your marker this way.

9. To store the small thread spools of your sewing machine, use foam toe separators that are used for pedicures.

10. It's impossible to pin leather or imitation leather before sewing, use paper clips instead to hold the pieces in place.
