Do you feel like other people always have a clean home while yours is constantly a mess? They might be doing certain things differently! Here are 9 great tips to keep your home clean and tidy at all times.
1. Take off your shoes
People with a clean home NEVER keep their shoes on when inside their house. Wearing shoes around the house brings in bacteria, dirt and a lot of other nasty stuff that sticks to the floors and rugs.
Tip: Use two doormats, one for the outside at the front door and one for the inside of your house. This provides twice the protection against bacteria and dirt.
2. Make the bed in the morning
The bed is the first thing you notice in a bedroom. Making your bed is a quick and easy gesture that instantly makes the room tidy, even if the rest of it is a bit messy.
Tip: To make your bed faster, lift the corners of the mattress and easily tuck sheets and blankets under just like in a hotel room!
3. Clean the kitchen counter
People who always have a clean house don't go to bed before tidying up and cleaning their kitchen counter. Often, a simple swipe of a damp clean cloth is enough to instantly make the kitchen cleaner.
Tip: Use pretty baskets to organize the mess and store small items.
4. Clean while cooking
Because NOBODY wants to do the dishes after a good hearty meal! So do most of the cleaning while you cook and before you sit down to eat. That way, you will only have a few plates left to clean at the end of your meal!
Tip: Empty the dishwasher before or at the same time as preparing the food. When you're done using a pot or other kitchen utensil, clean them up right away or put them straight into the dishwasher.
5. Cleaning the Shower Walls
Preventing water spots and mold is quick and easy. Just wipe the walls of the shower with a squeegee or microfiber cloth after each use.
Tip: Keep your cleaning equipment easy access! A microfiber cloth is easily stored on a towel rack and a squeegee in the shower stall.
6. Sweep Floors Every Night
The best way to keep dust away is to sweep before going to bed. A small, effective action that will help you easily remove all the dust that has fallen on the floors ... and prevent it from spreading to the rest of the house.
Tip: Keep your baseboards clean by wiping them down with a fabric softener.
7. Put away clothes right away
It is so tempting to simply throw clothes on the bed, on a chair or on the floor, especially after a long day at work. However, people with clean homes always take a few seconds to fold and put away their clothes, or put them in the laundry basket. Take a quick tour of your house before going to bed and put all the dirty clothes in the laundry basket. You'll be amazed how much cleaner and tidy your home will look like just by picking up those few pieces of clothing lying around!
Tip: Add a dry towel to wet clothes in the dryer to cut drying time in half.
8. Wipe down the bathroom sink and mirror
After each toothbrushing, quickly wipe off any small splashes of toothpaste on the sink, faucet or mirror.
Tip: Keep a microfiber cloth near the sink. It is perfect for cleaning the mirror without leaving traces and eliminates toothpaste waste.
9. Follow the 2-minute rule
The 2-minute rule is super-simple: "If it takes less than two minutes, do it right away." This is one of the best ways to fight procrastination and jump straight into action! Apply this rule to all the small tasks that tend to pile up, such clothes rolled into a ball on a chair, putting food leftovers in Tupperware, etc.
Tip: Test it! The 2 minute rule will help you get into action mode faster. So, why not give it a try?
