Hate running? It seems like you don't have to go for a run anymore. Studies show that a hot bath would be as effective as a 30-minute run in term of burning calories! What a great news!
Dr. Steve Faulkner, a researcher at Loughborough University in Great-Britain, said taking a hot bath would be as beneficial to health as running. Scientists have recently measured its positive health effects such as the level of blood sugar and the number of calories burned.
It appears that there are several benefits to a hot bath. Doctor Faulkner and his team compared the effects of a hot bath on the blood sugar level and the number of calories eliminated by heat and the effects of sport. The results are amazing!
Dr. Faulkner explains that "After eating, blood sugar levels were about 10% lower when participants took a hot bath rather than when they cycled." He also explains that "the anti-inflammatory properties of physical activity are the same obtained after an experience of passive heat".
So don't ever feel guilty about taking a nice long hot good bath!
The study showed that an hour-long hot bath can burn 130 calories which is the same amount as walking for 30 minutes! Dr. Faulker said: "In a similar way to exercise, it may be that [a hot bath] three to five times per week for ~60 minutes would be necessary," he also mentioned that the warmer the better, but be careful so it doesn't get uncomfortable!
Are you more a bath or a shower person? Maybe it's time to start baths!
