A video showing live worms in a package of salmon at Costco rapidly went viral.
The video, which was shared on TikTok and has already received over two million views, shows live worms inside a package of salmon at Costco.
In the caption accompanying the video, user @msrachellyn explained: "Bruh, live worms on the salmon at Costco... I immediately put it back on the shelf."
The scene might put off many people, but as indicated by an article published by CBC in 2019, experts estimate that 75% of Pacific salmon are infected with parasites.
However, there is no need to worry, as the same experts assure that fish containing worms can be safely eaten if they are properly cooked.
Michael Ganzle, a researcher in food microbiology and probiotics at the University of Alberta, explained to CBC: "When the fish is cooked, it is still disgusting, but not dangerous. If the fish is eaten raw, then there can be an infection."

Doctor Ingrin Koo clarified that cases of infections are not very common: "The United States reports only 10 diagnosed infections per year. In Japan, it is over 1,000 cases reported per year since raw fish is an integral part of their diet."
In short, the next time you buy fish on sale, make sure to cook it well!

The video, however, sparked a lot of reactions from internet users.
"Did you inform the store so they can take care of it?" asked one internet user.

"Which is worse, the worm or the price?" commented another internet user.

"Just another reason for me to never eat anything that comes out of the water," wrote another internet user.
