Airbnb is currently looking for volunteers who would like to spend two months in the beautiful Bahamas. The popular web company hopes to find candidates who will be willing to participate in local green projects, while helping to attract tourists back to the island after a devastating hurricane.

It is in partnership with the Bahamas National Trust, a non-profit organization that manages the country's national park service, that the online platform based in the United States decided to offer five people the chance to temporarily settle in the Bahamas.

People will have the mission of integrating the communities of the islands of Andros, Exuma and Eleuthera, to fully immerse themselves in the local culture and to be part of the environmental projects underway. The environmental projects include; helping to restore a coral reef and building traditional boats.

The organizers hope the project will attract more visitors to the country, which depends heavily on tourism to fund the reconstruction efforts after the devastating Hurricane Dorian. The deadly category 5 hurricane that caused catastrophic damage in 2019 is considered one of the worst natural disasters in the history of the Bahamas.

Eric Carey, the executive director of the Bahamas National Trust, said in a press release: "The Bahamas is open for business and as we work to restore parts of the archipelago devastated by Hurricane Dorian, the vast majority are ready for visitors. " Carey also explained that this partnership with Airbnb was an "incredible opportunity" as well as a means of "preserving our culture and resources and sharing our diverse country and the Bahamian way of life with the world".

The contest is open to residents (18 years of age or older) from nearly three dozen countries, including Canada, Mexico, Thailand, Germany and the United States.

The five winners will be announced on March 25, 2020
