Bon Jovi opened up two restaurants where people in need can eat for free!

What an amazing idea to beat hunger! Thank you Bon Jovi for helping those in need!

Tips and Crafts

Bon Jovi is known for his great music but also his big heart. The musician has a foundation called Jon Bon Jovi (JBJ) Soul Foundation that helps people in need by providing housing and food. Earlier this year he help opened a new housing for homeless veterans

But did you know that the foundation also runs two restaurants? They are called JBJ Soul Kitchen and are located in New Jersey, in Red Bank and in Toms River. What is so special about these restaurants is that all are welcome at the table. That means that people can go and eat and pay what they can afford to pay (if they are even able to pay!). In fact, those who are not able to pay are offered an opportunity to volunteer at the restaurant by doing something like cleaning tables, serving meals, or even washing dishes.

We are excited to announce our Soul Story Series! Each month we are featuring volunteers and the stories that led them to Soul Kitchen. Scroll below for our very first Soul Story! . "I had to make a decision around 4 years ago to play the tough love card with my son, Todd, who was a heroin addict. I had to choose to stop my enabling, cease all contact with him, and put myself first for the first time in my life. I had weighed almost 375 lbs and was just waiting for the grim reaper . I had seen the ad in the newspaper about volunteers for the JBJ Soul Kitchen that was opening in Toms River. This was the spark I needed in my life to do what I knew I wanted to do, but, didn’t know I had it in me. Because of my obesity, the first thing I did was to lose weight. I opted for gastric bypass. This was in January 2016 and in May of 2016, I attended an orientation to volunteer at JBJ. I never looked back, I have lost 156 lbs . I have since attended Fulfill’s Culinary school, graduated in August 2017, and have been gainfully employed with them ever since. All these events have had a positive impact on my life. I have been clean from enabling since May of 2015 and my son, I am proud to say, has been clean and sober since August 2015. Together we founded the Never Too Late Foundation Inc. We are a non-profit helping those who want to live a clean and sober life. JBJ Soul Kitchen put the “SOUL” back into my life.” ? #soulstory #jbjsoulkitchen #hopeisdelicious

The restaurants have a menu that is filled with healthy and freshly prepared meals. They offer three-course meal that consists of, first your choice of soup or salad. Then, an entree like fish, chicken, or a vegetarian option and finally a dessert. What is truly spectacular is that many of the ingredients used are grown right on-site! As the menu changes every 10 days you will always have something new to try.

The recommended donation for a three-course meal at the restaurant is only $20, but those who can't afford it are most welcome and even have priority to be seated first! The restaurant takes no reservations, and you get assigned to a table in the order that you arrive. The exception are those who are truly very hungry and have to eat right away. The tables are long and it is encouraged to make conversation natural with strangers.

What a beautiful thing to do for people in need. If you are ever in in the area, will you be visiting the restaurant? We applaud Bon Jovi and the foundation for this generous gesture!
