When an essential oil is well preserved ( when it is protected from air, light and heat ) , it can be used after the expiry date indicated on the bottle.
But if it is not the case and you have a doubt because you notice that the texture, color or smell , have changed, do not toss it right away.
Your out - of - date essential oils can still be useful around the house. Here is how you can reuse them :
1. A natural disinfectant for the floor
Dilute a few drops of the expired essential oil into white vinegar and stir, then pour into water to wash your floor.

2. To clean the bathroom
Pour white vinegar into a spray bottle and add a few drops of the essential oil of your choice. Use this mixture to disinfect the toilet and make the faucet shine !
3. To deodorize the trash can
Soak cotton ball into the expired essential oil, and place it in the bottom of your trash can to minimize nasty smells.
4. To make scented candles
Melt wax in a bain-marie and add a few drops of your favorite essential oil. You can also mix several oils to obtain a unique fragrance.

5. To perfume closets and drawers
Put a few drops of essential oil on a cloth or a tissue and place it in your closet or in your drawers, it will smell good and you can get rid of moths.
6. A fragrance diffuser
Fill a glass jar with ¼ water, ¼ vodka and 20 drops of essential oil of your choice and place a few bamboo sticks to release a pleasant scent in the room.

Note : Avoid using outdated essential oils for skin care, but do not hesitate to use them for the home. They are really useful, even if they have passed their expiry date.
