From ordinary barn to office space; take a look at the beautiful transformation of this building.

A magnificent result!

Tips and Crafts

A beautiful transformation!

Whether you are an interior designer or not, you may have noticed that the rustic and "worn" look is very popular these days. It seems that the transformations of old buildings (barn etc.) are more popular than ever!

Perhaps the best example of this trend is what this Canadian design company did to an old barn, that they found on a recently purchased property.

Instead of tearing it down, or sprucing it up just a tad, they completely transformed it.

The result is amazing ...

Before

Originally, the upstairs of the barn had been used as a hayloft. More recently, a previous owner had allowed his sheep to wander up there, so there was manure all over the floor.

Time to clean!

Overall, it was going to be the perfect canvas to realize their project. After the first cleanup, it was time to get to work!

The project

The plan was to build a space that will be used as an office but could also be a small apartment. It would have a hot water tank and a small laundry room with storage, under the stairs.

Small kitchen area and a bathroom upstairs. Because of the barn roof there is lots of opportunity for built in storage.

The exterior

The exterior needed to be updated, complete with new boards in many places, and new windows.

They used ropes and pulleys to lift the large windows up.

The exterior, again

Here you can see some of the new boards (placed on the top half). They immediately brightened up the exterior of the barn, and the cupola received a similar treatment.

Electricity

The designers hired electricians who installed most of the major electrical work, and made sure to have two wires connected: this was in case they decide to build another building nearby.

Plumbing

The plumbing was put in, as well as all of the proper drainage. The barn is completely different !

The interior

As you can see, it is not easy to transform a barn, it takes a lot of time, planning and work!

Insulation

Installing the insulation was one of the hardest parts of the whole process.

Work in progress!

Finally, the project was beginning to near its end!

Nearly done !

The lights are installed, the floor is clean !

Staircase

They built a beautiful staircase to go up to the office space.

Voila !

Here is what the finished office space looks like! The room has a beautiful light thanks to the cupola and the two windows at each side of the room!

I like the idea of the wood stove and you?

A dark room for photography.

The team of architects even installed a dark room for photography!

The cupola

The cupola brings an interesting architectural element to the office space!

Between $ 30,000 and $ 40,000

This barn looks like a new building. The entire project cost between $ 30,000 and $ 40,000.

This is not the kind of small project we do every day, but I must admit that this barn is now beautiful, right? Unfortunately I do not have the other pictures of the rest of the barn, but admit that the office space is really beautiful, right?
