Here's why you should always have a cup of rice in your closet

A very simple thing!

Why a cup of rice?

Rice is a staple on all dinner tables around the world; but did you know that rice had many other uses that go beyond the kitchen?

Most of us used it to save our cell phones that dropped into water because it's hygroscopic and rice can trap water molecules, but have you ever used it to trap the nasty smells?

Ah ah! Good question!

A cup of rice, in a stinky space, can make a world of difference. Making a deodorizing rice jar is one of the easiest, and best smelling things you can do! To make sure of always having a good smell in your wardrobe or in a place that sometimes smells bad; here's what you should do!

What you need:

All you need is a jar ("Mason" jars work perfectly), a bag of rice and your favorite blend of essential oils.

If you are dealing with a closet that smells really bad, you can balance the scent with lemongrass oil. If you're just looking to add a pleasant and subtle fragrance, try rosemary, peppermint or lavender oil.

How to do:

  • Pour 1 to 2 cups of rice inside a glass jar.
  • Add 10 to 20 drops of your favorite essential oils.
  • Optional: cover the top with a breathable fabric and secure with a rubber band (or the outer band lid of the Mason jar)
  • Shake the jar so that the oils are evenly distributed.

It can be used for 4 to 6 months

This pot does not necessarily act as a diffuser and will not leave a fragrance throughout your home but is perfect for small spaces.

Try it in every closet of your home and in every small room that tends to smell bad, like laundry room, entryway and children's wardrobes with their hockey equipment and sneakers that smell bad!

Be sure to store it up and out of the way, especially if you choose not to put a fabric lid on, you would not want to pick up rice anywhere on the floor! If you do not notice the pleasant smell of your essential oil, shake the rice again to better distribute the oils. Isn't it a great tip?
