The 10 most romantic villages

We take you traveling with us to the 10 most romantic destinations! We take you to visit charming villages with pretty houses that will certainly give you the desire to visit these beautiful places and even, perhaps, to rent a small house in one of these villages!

We aren't talking here about your typical destinations like Paris, Florence and other big cities like these, but many less visited places yet equally impressive and charming.

If, like me, you cannot afford to go, we can always dream looking at the pictures!

Enjoy the trip!

First village

The village of Giethoorn, in the north of Holland, is nicknamed "the Venice of the North", for its canals that give us the impression of being like in a fairy tale with its thatched houses, wooden bridges and its trails lined with trees. You can even rent a boat to go down one of the waterways ... without a gondolier! There are also houses for rent in this pretty village.

Second village

Hallstätt (Austria) offers something special, which is even more obvious when you arrive by boat on the lake with the mist coming down from the imposing Dachstein mountains. Within the UNESCO World Heritage City, you will find 12th-century churches, a bustling market square and numerous restaurants for a romantic evening. Rent a small apartment in this place; this is the dream!

Third village

You will have a hard time finding a seaside town in Italy that does not inspire romance, but there is something quite different about Taormina, a clifftop town on the island of Sicily . The views of Mount Etna and the Ionian Sea are magnificent as are the ancient ruins and the streets lined with cafes. But we would not be jealous of you if you were to visit the Belmond Grand Hotel Timeo, one of our favorite hotels in the world; a perfect place for a romantic getaway.

Fourth village

Another village that inspires joy is Soglio in Switzerland. Stroll through the cobblestone streets, breathe in the fresh mountain air and smell the roses in the garden of the historic Palazzo Salis. Serenity is an aphrodisiac.

Fifth village

Bled is a picturesque fairytale village on this sparkling lake of Slovenia; Lake Bled. Everything is charming in this village: its 12th century castle, perched on a cliff overlooking the lake, its charming candlelit restaurants and the general atmosphere of this place.

Sixth village

With its colorful candy-like houses, magnificent architecture, lush gardens and canals filled with boats, the charming seaside town of Aveiro (Portugal) is a wonderful place to visit! Take a ride on a "moliceiro" boat, picnic under the shady palm trees of Jardim do Rossio, or visit one of its many cafes and share a tray of ovos moles (Portuguese pastries). Plus, with the Atlantic at your doorstep, you'll find expansive golden beaches just minutes away by bus or boat.

Seventh village

Flanked by the highest peaks of the Pyrenees, Benasque (Spain) is more like a village in the Swiss Alps than a village in northern Spain. Benasque, considered one of the most beautiful small towns in Spain, attracts outdoor enthusiasts looking for hiking or fly fishing, as well as lovers of good bistros and typical cafes!

Eighth village

Sometimes called "the Venice of Savoy", this alpine town (Annecy, France) is appreciated for its slopes and canals covered with bridges (the ideal backdrop for a photo shoot or even a marriage proposal). The cobbled streets of the city are ideal for walking, and its proximity to the emerald waters of Lake Annecy make it an even more romantic place.

Ninth village

Nestled at the foot of a UNESCO World Heritage-listed fjord and surrounded by rugged, snow-capped mountains, the village of Geiranger (Norway) is as perfect as a postcard. It's also a secret paradise for gourmets, as there are many chocolate shops, cheese factories and excellent restaurants from farm to table (like typical breweries). Do not miss a boat trip to see the spectacular waterfalls of the fjord.

The Last village

Lake Como (Italy) is well known but Lake Iseo is quieter, less crowded and (dare we say) much more romantic. For starters, the town of Iseo itself, located on the south shore of the lake, overlooks Monte Isola, a mountain rising in the center of the lake. There are fewer tourists too, which means that you can enjoy its beautiful squares, its typical churches and its medieval castles all to yourself (with your lover of course!).

And? To what corner of Europe do you want to go?
