Have you noticed that the ice from the restaurant is often time crystal clear? However, when you make it at home, you get white and cloudy ice cubes? If you wish to make an impression on your guests with superb cocktails, we have the perfect solution!

You can achieve crystal clear ice cubes at home! It's actually really easy!

The main thing you have to do is think about boiling the water before putting it in the ice cube tray and then the freezer. For even more transparent ice cubes, you can use filtered water, it's even more effective!

The boiled water trick

Preferably, you should use a large ice cube tray as the effect will be even more impressive! You will also need plastic wrap, a kettle and freezer.

This trick would also works (an is even better) using demineralized water that is sold in pharmacies or big box stores.

  1. Start by boiling water and let it cool down.
  2. Boil water a second time and let cool again.
  3. Pour water in the ice cube tray.
  4. Cover with plastic wrap. This will prevent air from entering the water and avoid bubbles.
  5. Place in the freezer and let sit until ice cubes have harden.

You should note that depending on the composition of the water and your freezer, it is possible that some impurities remains. This will prevent the ice cubes from being crystal clear. You should then try this trick with demineralized water.

Here is a video of all the steps!

If you are a perfectionist and want to achieve truly crystal clear ice cubes, you can also use a mini-cooler to make your ice cubes!

Have fun!

Cheers!
