It is beautiful a wooden deck ... but it requires maintenance. Due to constant humidity outside and also human activity - BBQ, pool, etc. -, the dirt is encrusted in the wood and make it gray, which is much less beautiful!
I saw my neighbor wash his patio a few weeks ago and when I went to bring him a tool that I had borrowed from him, I saw how beautiful his terrace was, as if he had just installed it or almost.
At home, no one would tell me that my terrace looks new!
So I asked him his secret and I thought he would tell he uses a special product that was expensive. Well, not at all!
He used OxyClean, the product I use precisely in my wash to loosen clothes!
He started by cleaning the bigger bit with the garden hose to remove as much dirt as possible.
Then he brushed the floor with this mixture: 2 cups of OxyClean and ¼ cup of dishwashing liquid soap down into a bucket of very hot water. If there are important mold it is recommended to add 1 cup of borax to the cleaning mixture.
He let the solution sit on the wood for 15-20 minutes, and when he rinsed with the pressure hose, there was no black trace, mold or dirt in it anymore.
I am very impressed to know that a laundry product cleans the wood!
Added: I also read that for wood that is not super dirty, but that needs a good cleaning anyway, baking soda sprinkled directly on the wood is very effective. You have to rub it with a brush and with some water. I was told that the results were very good. It's worth trying it anyway!
