I hate fruit flies, they are disgusting because they appear without knowing where they come from and turn around food, mainly ripe fruits, which gave them their name fruit flies.
Midges will not come near your fruit basket if you add corks next to the fruits!
The corks, absorb the ambient humidity, and they will slow down at the same time the ripening of fruits, mainly bananas.
The ideal would be to have a fruit basket made of cork, the problem would be settled for good!
