Dish detergent pods are becoming more and more popular in the dishwasher section. We find the formula practical because it does not cause damage, the soap is always well dosed and it takes no time to just throw the pod into the machine!
However, pods, like commercial detergent in general, are not really the cheapest option. Did you know that you could spend less in this regard? And what's more, you could be making a greener change in your dish washing habits?
If you still buy dishwasher detergent, you do not have to do it anymore. Here is what we suggest you do instead:
an easy recipe for dishwasher pods made with ecological and economical ingredients.
Here's what you'll need to make this recipe:
260g (about 1/2 pound) of washing soda
3 tablespoons (45g) of salt
115 ml (about 1/2 cup) of water
45 drops of lemon or grapefruit essential oils, or a blend of citrus essential oils
A silicone ice cube tray
Here are the steps on how to proceed:
1. In a bowl, mix all the ingredients
2. Pour the mixture into the silicone mold by pressing it firmly
3. Allow to dry for 48 hours.
4. Unmould the pods and place them in an airtight jar, away from the sun.
5. Place a pod in the detergent compartment and half a glass of white vinegar in the dishwasher rinse compartment each time you wash for clean, shiny dishes.
This economical method is especially environmentally friendly, very significant in these times of great environmental concerns. You will no longer feel guilty about using chemicals and your dishes will be just as clean! And THAT is wonderful!
